Changing the Musical Theatre Industry, One Performer at a Time...

Hi, I'm Sara Wunsch, a Musical Theatre Composer and Musical Director with a Master of Music in Music Education from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music. I've worked professionally in the musical theatre industry for almost two decades.

In my career, I've realized that this industry is not designed to teach you how to read music... You learn songs and harmonies by rote or with recordings... You maybe took one semester in your BFA program, but can you sight-read any key signature or time signature easily?... I'm guessing not. 

And yet, directors always prioritize performers who can sight-read music... That is why I decided to create Broadway Music Theory.

I believe it is time to stop gatekeeping music literacy and start empowering all musical theatre performers with music theory knowledge, so they can gain insight into a composer's musical choices and make confident choices in their singing, acting, and dancing.
